Benefits of becoming a member of Family Mediation Council – Michigan

We welcome anyone who is supportive of using mediation to resolve family conflicts to join our community. For those who practice as mediators, we offer:

  • Our on-line community, where we can exchange information about a variety of topics and interests to support our mediation practices
  • Our website, which serves as a resource for couples experiencing family conflicts, as well as for other family professionals and where we can clearly explain the advantages of using mediation as early as possible
  • Our chapters, where we work on the local level to increase awareness and use of mediation as early in cases as possible, and can draw on the resources of the statewide organization to accomplish this goal
  • Our newsletter, which is published 3-4 times per year, and includes articles on current events, ethics, and other topics
  • Our Annual Meeting, where each January we gather speakers to address current issues, and to engage our members in discussion
  • Our periodic training sessions, such as “Legal and Mental Health Issues in Divorce Mediation," many of which are SCAO approved as advanced mediation training for purposes of maintaining eligibility for court approval.
  • A referral data base, which is the only resource of its kind specific to Michigan. Visitors to our website or callers to our 800 number can access information about mediators and their practices.

For other family professionals, including attorneys, mental health, and financial professionals, who may or may not practice as mediators, we offer a link to the community of mediators, so that you can become familiar with people who can serve as valuable resources to your practice, by helping your clients who can benefit from mediation, and by potentially recommending you for consideration by clients as they are assembling their support team for resolving their conflicts through mediation.

Membership is only $100 per year, for the calendar year. Those who elect to pay at least an additional $50 are listed as sustaining members in our newsletter and on our website, (click her to see our Thanks to our Sustaining Members) and their additional support is very much appreciated. Because we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we will also gratefully accept any additional donations toward our programs and services.
