Family Mediation Council – Michigan is pleased to honor individuals who we call “Peacemakers.” These people have distinguished themselves in the community. In addition to family mediation practice, they participate in training and advocacy. Their efforts help to advance the practice and use of mediation as a tool for peaceful conflict resolution, helping families through a difficult process with dignity and understanding. Ellen Craine is one such Peacemaker. Ellen is a Divorce and Family Mediator, Parenting Time Coordinator, Social Worker, and Educator. Ellen is a past Chair of Family Mediation Council – Michigan and is currently Chair of the “Mediators” Committee and Editor of the newsletter, The Michigan Mediator. Ellen’s other professional affiliations include membership in Association for Conflict Resolution, Association for Family Conciliation Courts, National Association of Social Workers, Oakland Mediation Center, Affiliate Member of ADR Section of State Bar of Michigan, and Michigan Inter-Professional Association.
Ellen has been very active in the mediation community for several years, and her contributions have included developing and delivering domestic violence training, which is required by Michigan Court Rules for inclusion on lists of court-approved mediators. Michigan Court rules also require that court-approved mediators complete 8 hours of advanced mediation training every two years. Ellen has consistently developed creative and insightful training programs, which have achieved approval by the State Court Administrative Office as advanced mediation training. Ellen also has a broad view of family mediation issues, and is involved in Adult Guardianship/Caregiver mediation and training, ElderCare mediation, Co-Parenting Effectiveness training, and Divorce recovery workshops.
